The Commons Committee examining the Bill voted along party lines on the amendments, on 11 September. Opposition amendments, as set out in our earlier posts, were either voted down or withdrawn at this stage, although the issues look likely to be revisited by the whole House at a later date as the Bill progresses. Lords amendments attempt to scale back whiplash reforms

We noted on Thursday 7 June that only the Government had tabled amendments to the whiplash aspect of the Civil Liability Bill. By the afternoon of Friday 8 June, however, a range of opposition and crossbench amendments had been tabled which attempt to restrict the Government’s proposed reform of whiplash damages in various ways, as set out below. New JC guidelines for general damages published

The 14th  Edition of the Judicial College Guidelines for general damages for personal injuries was published on Friday 15 September.  The overall increase in guidelines is of around 4.8%, which reflects the increase in RPI since the last edition (published in September 2015).
